As we approach the end of a pretty decent month of horror, we get ready to move into the next. With July bringing us releases such as Maxxxine, A Quiet Place: Part One, and The Watchers, we look forward to what August will bring us. So, without further ado, let’s dive into what the world of horror has in store for us in the coming month.

All My Friends are Dead

August 2, 2024

All My Friends are Dead – or AMFAD, to its friends – is an upcoming slasher movie set for release on August 2 of this year. When a group of friends book into an Airbnb to attend a nearby music festival, things take a gruesome turn as they are picked off and murdered on by one.

With the movie’s cheesy premise and with it being a slasher, you can expect all of the things we have come to expect from the age-old sub-genre: wooden acting, annoying characters and corny kills and I can’t wait.

Cuckoo

August 9, 2024

Starring Hunter Shafer in the lead role, Cuckoo promises to be a blood-soaked barrage of horror. Releasing on August 9, the movie follows a girl named Gretchen as she reluctantly joins her father in a resort in the German Alps.

It’s not long before the heroine realizes that things aren’t what they seem at the resort, when she is stalked by a sinister woman and things take a sinister turn.

Alien: Romulus

Alien: Romulus is the seventh instalment to the timeless and iconic horror franchise. Taking place in in 2142 the movie’s vintage places it between the events of the original franchise instalments, Alien and Alien 2.

While scavenging space for usable materials in an abandoned space station, a group of young space colonists find themselves coming face-to-long-weird-face with horrors most recognizable aliens, the Xenomorphs.

Afraid

August 30, 2024

Following the success of M3GAN, Blumhouse are once again warning us of the dangers of AI and our rapidly increasing technology. This time around, the threat won’t come in the form of a creepy android girl, but in the guise of a bleeding-edge AI home assistant.

Again we are met we are set to meet another artificial intelligence system with evil intent and perhaps even an insight into the dangers of technological growth. Being a fan of M3GAN, I’m looking forward to this one, I just hope it lives up to its potential.

Death Bitch

After losing her mother and brother during a home invasion, Alexis Walker stalks the streets in search of sweet vengeance. All the while, a serial killer known as “The South Bay Strangler” notches up his body count.

Despite the name and tacky premise, Death Bitch is one I’m personally looking forward to. With two maniacs on the loose in this one, it’s likely that we’ll see some decent kill scenes and buckets of blood; two vital ingredients for any decent horror.

Horror Movies Coming to DVD this August

  • Chucky (TV series) – August 13
  • You’ll Never Find Me – August 20
  • The Watchers – August 27

Summary

August looks to be yet another explosive month for the world of horror. With a mixed bag of horror around the corner, we’re in for a variety of treats across the sub-genres. From a fresh instalment for a well renowned franchise to creature-features and crazed vengeance- seeking vigilantes, August seems to have something for everyone in store.
