While we are still waiting for the official release date of Netflix’s new ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ to be announced, the studio did let go of its first image from the promised, 2018 series. Dated April 4, 2018, the photo pictures the two protagonists in a private, happy moment.
Based on the 2014 mini series comic of the same name by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the new live-action series follows the ‘Archie Comics’ characters on a much darker and more demonic path than was observed in the comedic Melissa Joan Hart sit-com from 1996-2003. Aguirre-Sacasa, as well as being the writer for the series, is also sitting in the Executive producers chair so a faithful transition from page to film should be assured.
Given its more horror-oriented twist, stars Kiernan Shipka (Sabrina) and Ross Lynch (Harvey) will join such additional veteran actors as Michelle Gomez from ‘Doctor Who,’ Miranda Otto from ‘Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers,’ Jaz Sinclair from ‘Easy,’ Lucy Davis from ‘Wonder Woman,’ and others who will populate the stories with more real-life action and situations than one might expect from the comedic origins of the source material.
