2023 has so far been a pretty wild ride in terms of horror movies. We have seen a creepy AI-driven android wreck mayhem in M3GAN; Winnie the Pooh and Piglet shedding more blood than a flourishing slaughterhouse in Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and our old favorite knife-wielding manic, Ghost Face, hit the streets of New York in a very bloody (if not a wildly unbelievable) franchise installment in Scream VI.
With such a promising first half of the year, we cast our eyes to the not-so-distant future and take a look at what else 2023 has in store for us many fans of gore, ghouls, and unrelenting terror. Here are our most anticipated upcoming horror movies of the months to come.
Insidious: The Red Door
When a movie comes from the dark and sinister depths of the Conjuring universe, it’s invariably full of psychological scares and a foreboding atmosphere. As the trailer above shows, Insidious: The Red Door isn’t about to break tradition.
Insidious: The Red Door is to be a direct sequel to Insidious: Chapter 2, making it the fifth installment of the sub-franchise in both date-released and chronological order. The movie will once again follow the Lambert family as they once again become plagued by a curse. Sony’s official synopsis for Insidious: The Red Door reads:
In Insidious: The Red Door, the horror franchise’s original cast returns for the final chapter of the Lambert family’s terrifying saga. To put their demons to rest once and for all, Josh (Patrick Wilson) and a college-aged Dalton (Ty Simpkins) must go deeper into The Further than ever before, facing their family’s dark past and a host of new and more horrifying terrors that lurk behind the red door.
Sony Pictures
It looks like the fifth installment will have all of the hallmarks that have become staples to the popular horror franchise. All will be revealed when the movie hits the theatres on July 7.
The Exorcist: Believer
It was 1973 when Regan first scared the living daylights out of an unsuspecting and ill-prepared audience, since, The Exorcist has gone on to become one of the most iconic horror titles of all time. Now, almost exactly fifty years on, the heralded movie is to be finally given its very own reboot.
However, it comes as sad news that the movie, set to release this October, will be a complete reimagining and won’t fellow horror’s best-known victim of demonic possession. This time around, the movie will instead follow two girls that disappear into a dark forest, to reappear days later acting strange and…well…demonic.
Furthermore, we are told that this is merely the first installment of a brand-new planned trilogy. It seems catholic horror and exorcism movies are make a huge comeback, and we love it.
The Nun 2
With any real details surrounding the details of The Nun 2 being as rare as hen’s teeth, there’s very little beyond the realms of speculation that we can write about. We do, however, have some interesting facts about the upcoming movie from the Conjuring universe.
We know that the movie will take place in 1952 and four years later than the events of the first Nun movie. We also know that the title character, Valak, is back and leaving in her wake a trail of death and fear. As we all know, there’s only one person equipped to deal with such evil carnate, yes, Sister Irene will once again be the lead character as she battles her ungodly nemesis and the evil within.
The Conjuring universe never fails to deliver scares that actually hit home and we, for one, can not wait for the return of the Nun.
Summary
With only half of the year behind us, we can’t wait to see what the next half of 2023 will bring to us. With so many horror movies in the pipeline, it’s a great time to be a horror fan. The above titles are merely the tip of a proverbial iceberg and the coming months are set to bring us some promising titles.

The Nun 2 and The Exorcist : Believer are two horror movies that I’m looking forward to this year. I enjoyed the first Nun and even Warrior Nun which was a TV show. As for The Exorcist : Believer, I’m looking forward to something better than what they did in The Pope’s Exorcist.
