Upcoming Horror Movies of 2023

With 2022 now a distant memory, we thought it to be the perfect time to look ahead at what 2023 has in store for our fellow horror fans. With so many horror movies lying in wait, we have compiled a list of our most anticipated upcoming horror titles.

The Outwaters

February 9, 2023

Since The Blair Witch Project set the bar and paved the way for future found footage movies, the genre has really grown legs. The Outwaters is the upcoming found footage movie and looks like it will be laced with uneasy tension and malice.

The movie follows four friends who are traveling through the Mojave Desert. After setting up camp at a remote location, they soon discover they aren’t alone and are sharing their space with a malevolent force.

Scream VI

March 10, 2023

Scream 6 takes us from the leafy suburb of Woodsboro to the hustle and bustle of New York City, as the Ghostface Killings once again return. Not being one to break tradition, Courtney Cox is making a return as Gail Weathers, for her sixth franchise appearance. However, actress Neve Campbell won’t be stepping into the shoes of Sydney after departing during a pay dispute while filming the upcoming slasher.

While many sources point to a March 10 release, there have been hints of a January 19 release when their official Twitter account cheekily posted “Looks like we have a spill. Clean up on aisle 1 and 19. Gonna need a mop AND body bag. #ScreamVI”.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey

February 15, 2023

Despite its ridiculously cheesy premise, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey has found itself on our most anticipated upcoming horror movie list. On the surface, we show surprise. However, deep down inside we can’t wait to see how this movie will be approached.

From what we can gather from the short trailer, our childhood hero, Christopher Robin has abandoned his beloved friends to leave for college, and they haven’t taken it well. The result is a slasher movie, with the clan from 100-Acre Woods as the tormentors. That’s not a sentence I would have imagined myself writing, but here we are.

Don’t be expecting the cutesy critters you know and love, either. Each character has been given a horror makeover and – as tacky as that may sound – we can’t wait to see them all. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey was officially to be released in the theatres for one day only on February 15. However, this was extended to nine days after the trailer kicked up a storm.

Evil Dead Rise

April 21, 2023

When two sisters, Ellie and Beth reunite, their celebrations are cut short when they find an ancient, creepy book and – having never seen a single horror movie between them – decide to investigate. After inadvertently releasing an evil force, they are forced into a battle against body-possessing demons. However, when one sister becomes infected and develops a taste for human flesh, the other has an impossible choice to make.

Despite coming from the same mind as the original iconic classic, Evil Dead Rise is now laced with psychological horror instead of gore. After watching the trailer, we can’t wait to get our teeth sunk into this, so to speak.

Evil Dead Rise will be hitting the theatres on April 21.

Summary

It’s still only January and this year’s horror titles are in abundance. With the unlikely horrification of a childhood hero, a fresh start to a classic horror movie and a found footage production that oozes suspense and menace, we can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for fans of horror.
